As the extensions are attached to the natural lashes, they will fall out with the natural cycle of the lash. A touch-up is needed every 4 to 6 weeks, but proper care will keep them from shedding prematurely. Here’s what you need to keep in mind:
After the first 24 hours, you can wash your face and shower as usual. However, do not rub your eyes when wet or even otherwise. Always pat them dry with a gentle hand.
Make it a habit to groom the lashes when wet-with an eyelash comb or clean mascara wand. You can even use a hair dryer on low setting to shape them if you wish.
Never use waterproof or even oil-based mascara on your lashes as it will be very difficult to remove. In fact, you will find that the lashes don’t need mascara at all. Even if you want the mascara look, opt for a water-based one. Specially formulated mascaras for lash extensions are also available.
Avoid oil-based cosmetics or even moisturizers around the eye area as they tend to break down the adhesive used to bond the extensions with the natural eyelashes. This will cause them to fall off ahead of time.
The same goes for makeup removers too. It is better to use makeup wipes as cotton pads may leave lint on the lashes which are difficult to remove.
Never use eyelash curlers or other heavy-duty instruments on the eyelashes. In fact, the extensions are already curled and you will not need to curl them anymore.
Perming or tinting them is also a strict no-no.
Let your beautician know that you have natural eyelash extensions so that she can take appropriate care during facial, peel, laser, or other treatments.
You can always go for steam, sauna, and hot tubs. But too much and too often a variation in temperature can weaken the adhesive.
